When it comes to staff scheduling, assigning a shift is only part of the equation. Sure, your team knows when they’re working—but do they know what they’re doing during that time?
That’s where work assignments come in.
In RecStaff, you can go beyond basic shift scheduling by assigning specific duties or tasks within each shift. Whether it’s lifeguard rotations, front desk coverage, maintenance rounds, or special event setup, staff know exactly what’s expected—right from the schedule.
What Are Work Assignments?
A work assignment is a defined duty or task that takes place during a staff member’s shift. RecStaff lets you:
- Name the work assignment (e.g., “Swim Lesson,” “Workout Class”, “Unpaid Break”)
- Set when it starts and the length of the assignment, so staff know when and for how long they’re doing each task
- Add colour coding to easily distinguish between assignments on the schedule
- Attach notes for important context or instructions
Everything is clear, visual, and easy to follow.
Pay Differently for Different Assignments
Not all work is equal—and RecStaff reflects that. You can assign different pay rates to different work assignments. If someone is lifeguarding for part of their shift and supervising for the rest, you can set separate rates—and it all flows through cleanly to the timesheets. No manual math. No confusion.
The Benefits Are Clear
- Staff walk into every shift knowing exactly what to do
- Supervisors can plan coverage with confidence
- Payroll reflects actual work performed, down to the task
- Less back-and-forth, fewer mistakes, more accountability
Scheduling should be more than just blocks of time—it should reflect the real work being done. With RecStaff, it does.
